- The Car – 1964 Alfa Romeo Tubolare Zagato (TZ1). Purpose built race car for FIA GT racing. 100 cars were suppose to be built for homologation purposes. It was later discovered that some serial numbers were not used thus fewer than 100 were built. Space age tubular frame with aluminum body, independent suspension, four wheel disc brakes with inboard calipers in rear. Plexi side and rear windows and many magnesium parts to cut down on weight. Very successful race car with many wins in the major races both by the factory team and in private hands.
- The Story – Ordered by an Alfa dealer in the Southwest and raced in regional and national races. Passed on through a number of owners and continued to be raced.
- The Cool Factor – Very rare and beautiful car. Factory prepared and one of a handful of cars with the knock-off wheels destined for long distance racing. Twin-plug engine. My grail car! Raced it up and down the West Coast for almost 10 years. Invited to be shown at the Pebble Beach Concours. Appeared in a number of books, calendars and magazines.
