De Rosa – 1984 Professional

  • The Bike – 1984 De Rosa Professional (AKA Super Prestige).  Just like the red De Rosa, I am not sure of the exact year but probably close enough.
  • The Story – Acquired from eBay in the early days.  I asked the seller about the make of some of the specific parts that was not shown in the pictures and his answer was “everything is Campagnolo”.  When I got the bike, it was in very poor condition with many non-Campy parts.  When I confronted the seller his answer was “all I saw was Campagnolo written everywhere so, how was I to know”.   Welcome to the world of eBay!  The bike was re-painted in-house in a pearl white with the decals and graphics masked.
  • The Cool Factor – These De Rosas are my favorite riding bikes.  This one seems to ride just a bit better than the red one.

  1. You have a beautiful bike, indeed. To be correct, it is a “Professional”, not “Super Prestige”. The frame is often mistakenly called, “Super Prestige” or “Eddy Merckx edition” due to the top tube decal. It refers to the Super Prestige Pernod was not a single race, but a season long competition similar to the Pro Tour of today and celebrates Eddy’s wins while riding De Rosa in the early 1970’s. http://www.raydobbins.com/derosa/pernod

Thought you would like to know.

    Cheers!
